Time Trial: five words, thirty seconds and a dice roll
Time Trial changes the forbidden-word format: the clue-giver sees five answers at once and has thirty seconds to explain them. There is no forbidden-word list. The extra challenge is a dice roll from 1 to 6, subtracted from the number of correct answers.
Before starting
Form two teams with at least two people each and choose Time Trial on the home screen. Name the teams and choose a target of 15, 25 or 40 points. By default, adult words are excluded; adding the Spicy pack includes that content and is an option for adults. Everyone plays in person using one phone.
- The active team reveals the dice before starting the turn.
- The clue-giver holds the phone and describes the five words without saying the answers directly.
- Teammates guess aloud. Tap each correct word to mark it. If you mark one accidentally, tap it again during the turn to unmark it.
- After thirty seconds, the app calculates the result and the phone passes to the other team.
How scoring works
Turn points = correct answers − dice roll. This result can be negative. When applied to the running total, the team's score cannot fall below zero. There are only five words per turn: guessing all five does not deal another card during those same thirty seconds.
| Correct | Dice | Result |
|---|---|---|
| 5 | 1 | +4 points |
| 4 | 2 | +2 points |
| 3 | 3 | 0 points |
| 2 | 5 | −3 points |
If your team has two points and earns −3, its total becomes zero. If it has ten, it drops to seven. With a dice roll of six, even five correct answers produce −1: that turn is about losing as little as possible.
When the game ends
The game checks the target after a complete round, once both teams have played. If the first team reaches the target, the second team still gets its turn. If both reach it, the higher score wins; with equal scores, the current implementation awards the win to the first team.
Make the most of thirty seconds
Start with words you can explain using one clear idea. You can move to another word and come back: trying a different word has no separate penalty. Use concrete clues such as a function or a situation, and avoid long introductions. Rotate the clue-giver to share the challenge.
