Organize a group game of SoyTaboo
SoyTaboo uses two teams sharing one phone. Each participant does not need to install anything or join a room. Organizing the group helps everyone hear the clues and get a chance to describe words.
Share the roles
With four people, each team has a clue-giver and a guesser. With six or eight, rotate the clue-giver in seating order. Someone from the opposing team checks the Taboo card and forbidden words. Avoid leaving the phone with the most experienced player every time.
For a larger gathering, balance teams by experience and language. In a noisy room, bring the guessers closer to the clue-giver and ask the other team to stay quiet during clues. Players who prefer not to describe can help watch the time.
Estimate the duration
In Taboo, three rounds with sixty-second turns mean six minutes on the clock: three turns for each of the two teams. Add time for explaining rules, changing clue-givers and reading summaries. Setting aside ten to fifteen minutes is a suggestion for a first game, not a guaranteed duration.
Time Trial ends at a target score and the dice can subtract points, making its duration less predictable. If time is limited, choose the fifteen-point target or use Taboo with a fixed number of rounds.
Choose words for your group
The mixed Random category is a useful starting point when players have different interests. Nature may be more accessible than Famous People when cultural references vary. For family or work gatherings, leave adult options off. Skip any word the group finds unsuitable.
A sequence for the host
- Read an example from the rules guide aloud.
- Try one practice turn without treating it as a competition.
- Agree how to handle gestures, word forms and disputed clues.
- Start a new game and rotate roles between turns.
- After finishing, ask which category the group would like to try next.
At work, present it as a voluntary game. The score counts answers in that game; it is not a measure of professional ability or individual performance.
